Staking a site to plan.

What is construction staking?

Construction staking — sometimes called construction surveying or site layout — translates your approved plans into physical reference points in the field. We measure precise horizontal positions and elevations from your civil drawings and set labeled stakes that tell your crew exactly where to build and how high or deep to grade. Accurate staking keeps improvements within design tolerances, reduces costly rework, and helps the whole project move on schedule.

Frequently asked questions

What is construction staking?

Construction staking is the process of marking the locations and elevations from your approved plans onto the ground, so crews can build improvements such as buildings, grading, curbs, and utilities exactly where the engineer intended.

What is an offset stake?

An offset stake is placed a set distance away from the actual feature so it survives excavation and grading. It is labeled with the offset distance and the cut or fill needed to reach design elevation.

What do you need from my engineer or plans?

We work from your approved civil plans, grading and utility sheets, and any digital design files or control data. Sharing the latest stamped set and the project schedule lets us stake the right information the first time.

How soon can you stake my site?

Scheduling depends on crew availability, site size, and how much of the plan you need staked at once. Many staking visits can be arranged within a few business days of receiving complete plans, subject to scheduling.

What affects the cost of construction staking?

Cost depends on site size, the number of features and stake points, terrain and access, how many phases or re-stakes are needed, and the complexity of the grading and utility design. Request a free estimate for your specific project.

Licensed Surveyor Oversight

Survey work is completed by, or under the responsible charge of, California-licensed Professional Land Surveyors. When a stamped survey is required, the final deliverable will identify the responsible licensee for that project.
